Weddings can be a high-stress environment and are often held at venues or event sites. In addition, many of the pre-wedding photographs are taken at a studio or on location. Liability can protect a photographer when a client or bystander gets injured due to a photographer’s setup.
Why Wedding Photographers need Liability
Venues often require proof of liability insurance for any vendor working at an event. A photographer is considered a vendor. Venues require liability from photographers because they do not want to be held liable if a guest is accidentally injured due to something caused by a photographer. For example, a guest trips over a a cable and breaks her ankle. In addition, liability protects photographers from property damage. For example, if a light or piece of equipment either falls on the floor or through a window, the photographer would be responsible for the damage.
Studios and working on location come with liability risks. Professional wedding photographers expose themselves to liability risks whenever they photograph or meet clients at their studio or rent a studio. In addition, working on location exposes a photographer to liability if someone gets injured due to their setup, or property gets accidentally damaged.
With limits up to $6M/$7M, RVNA’s General Liability insurance helps to protect a wedding photographer’s business in the event where they are held liable for bodily injury or property damage. Whether a photographer is in a studio, at an event, or on the streets, this coverage is indispensable.
It’s a common misconception that the warranties included with a camera purchase or other high-value photography equipment provide enough protection. While warranties offer limited protection, they do not provide the protection professional photographers require. In addition, photographers end up having multiple warranties from multiple providers, and these limited and extended warranties are not hassle-free when it comes to filing a claim for accidental damage or defects with photography equipment.
Theft and accidental damage coverage
Our equipment coverage not only covers your equipment for accidental damage, but it also provides protection if your camera is stolen.
Equipment Replacement Cost Coverage
If your camera needs to be replaced, we don’t pay you the value of your existing camera; we pay to replace it. What this means for a wedding photographer is that if you have a discontinued camera model, we will pay what it costs you to replace it, even if it’s a newer model. This replacement cost coverage extends to all photography gear and office equipment, including laptops, monitors, and more.
Owned and rented equipment coverage
Our equipment insurance is one of the few that extends coverage to rented equipment.
Fire, Windstorm, Earthquake, Flood, Vandalism coverage
Our gear coverage covers equipment for accidental damage from many perils that other insurers often exclude.
No per-item limit, no itemization needed
When you purchase equipment coverage, you choose how much coverage you need. If you need to file a claim, your equipment can be covered up to your selected limit. We don’t place per-item limits on photography equipment, so even if you have a high-value camera covered under the policy, we will pay to replace it.
RVNA places no limits on the value of your camera or equipment. For example, If a photographer selects a $10,000 coverage limit then the equipment is covered up to $10,000 even if that amount is for a single camera accidentally damaged that costs $10,000 to replace. Other insurance places per item limits on camera and gear.
RVNA’s Photographer Insurance provides coverage for owned and rented equipment. For example: A photographer rents lights for a shoot and a light gets damaged. RVNA’s Camera Equipment Insurance covers the replacement cost of the equipment up to the insured limit. Other insurance excludes rented equipment.
With RVNA Photographer Insurance, tailor your policy to cover exactly what you need. Our custom policies can be quoted and purchased online instantly. Using our online system, you select only the limits and coverages you need. Other insurance is package-based and costs photographers more money for less coverage.
